Aim of charity
Support for grieving families of deceased children

Reason for nominating this charity
There is a very lovely young couple known to our Branch in Yeovil, both are teachers, sadly lost their daughter a year ago. She was not even 2 years of age - she had a cold, seemed to be better, went to the park and passed away in hospital following infection reaching her heart. Imagine leaving hospital alone, without their daughter not knowing who to turn to. They came across 2Wish whose support has been immense. In addition to this the young couple have recently become Ambassadors for 2Wish and to date have raised circa £40,000 in a year!

Aim of charity
To support families that have a child who has been diagnosed with cancer. Assist with the devastating impact on the physical, financial and emotional health and wellbeing of the whole family, both during and after treatment and beyond.

Reason for nominating this charity
Abby's mum Sally is a close friend of mine and watching how brave Abby and her family were in the years of dealing with her diagnosis and treatments was ultimately heart-breaking. However, from her loss Sally found a way to help people locally and further afield with the struggles she personally experienced to make their journey just that little bit easier. The strength and bravery displayed by these children is phenomenal and an example to us all. So anything we can do to raise funds to make their days easier is worth while.

Aim of charity
To ensure appropriate access to both health and social support for over 55s in Bristol

Reason for nominating this charity
Age UK Bristol, independent from wider Age UK, does excellent work locally in supporting those in need. Whether organising community activities, providing financial advice, facilitating hospital discharge, or simply ensuring that people have someone to reach out to, their support is greatly appreciated and indeed, increasingly necessary.

Given the aging population of the UK, the support offered by the team at Age UK Bristol is paramount, both for those in the 55+ range, and their families.

Reason for nominating this charity
In 2017, DUAL Italia hired the first colleague with Down syndrome, followed by a second in 2020. Today, Giulia and Andrea are thriving members of our team, and this success is largely due to the support of AGPD. Their expert guidance throughout the recruitment, onboarding, and integration processes, including dedicated tutoring, was essential for their inclusion and also for fostering a truly inclusive culture within our Organization. Over the years, several DUAL-AGPD awareness initiatives, from the Dive-In Festival to the first DUAL Olympics, have been launched with the aim of inspiring other companies to embark on similar paths of inclusion.

Recently, after a period of hospitalization (and a big scare) I was diagnosed with this disease. Fortunately I have a very strong character and I want to face my illness with a smile. However, I would like to contribute in helping to give support to all the people who are afraid of the challenges that life imposes on them, perhaps finding a permanent cure.

Asthma+Lung UK's vision is for a world where everyone has healthy lungs. Where lung health is prioritised through better understanding, research, treatment and support. We are dedicated to helping create a world where good lung health and the ability to breathe freely are a basic right enjoyed by all.

Reason for nominating this charity
My mother passed away when I was 8 years old, she had Pulmonary Fibrosis. She received help from the British Lung Foundation (BLF), who were fantastic with my family. BLF have now teamed with Asthma UK as Asthma + Lung UK, as lung conditions receive less than 2% of public funding for medical research, while lung conditions continue to be the 3rd biggest killer in the UK. This is a charity close to me who receive little exposure and who help so many people across the U.K.

Aim of charity
To help and support people with eating disorders and those people around them.

Reason for nominating this charity
I have personal experience of growing up with a parent who suffered terribly with anorexia nervosa which eventually due to it being so severe led to other complications and eventually, at the age of 46 (when I was 18 years old in 1993), took their life from them following a massive brain haemorrhage and a stroke. This type of experience has a huge effect on the life of the individual who suffers and of those who love and support them. If BEAT had been something available to us this would have been a huge help.

Children in care

Aim of charity
Become is the national charity for Children in care and for care leavers. Their vision is that care-experienced people have the same chances as everyone else to live happy, fulfilled lives.

Reason for nominating this charity
There are more children in care than ever before. In England alone, 83,840 were in care as at 31st March 2023.

Too many children are being placed in a home that don't meet their needs. It's having a harmful impact on children in care.

Additionally, too many young people are expected to leave care before they feel ready. Most have to leave care on the day of their 18th Birthday. Many describe this feeling as a "cliff edge". They are expected to become independent overnight, and without support.

Reason for nominating this charity
I re-homed a rescue pony called Apollo form Blue Acre, they do an incredible job being a safe haven for so many abandoned and neglected horses/ponies. Any donation would be a huge help to them especially as we go in to winter where their hay, feed and veterinary costs are so high. Please help them this winter, it will make the world of difference this small charity.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

BTR is determined to change this.

Reason for nominating this charity
I was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour at 17 years old which was successfully removed during surgery. This was categorised as a Grade 2 astrocytoma. I have continued to have MRI's since then and find myself extremely fortunate that there has been no cancer re-occurrence

The objective of Brightwells Gostrey is to provide - within a safe, warm and friendly community focused environment, high quality facilities and services that promote the wellbeing and welfare of elderly and vulnerable people and establishes a place for them to regularly meet and socialise.

Reason for nominating this charity
Brightwells Gostrey are an amazing charity run by volunteers in an environment where rising costs and reduction of government funding are putting viability of the service at risk. Without the charities help many of the elderly local community would not get a warm meal each day and may not have any contact with another person. We are constantly having to find new ways to raise funds for a small charity like us to keep it running, it makes it all worthwhile when we see the joy on the faces of the people who we visit and who visit the centre.

Aim of charity
Mental health suicide prevention charity, caring for those struggling with life. Providing life-saving services and helping people see the light again.

Reason for nominating this charity
CALM is a charity very close to my heart. Suicide is on the rise and is a silent killer shrouded by stigma, but it impacts everyone in some way - whether themselves, or those close to them. Everyone needs a place to turn at some point.
I lost my best friend to suicide earlier this year - a character no one even knew was struggling. Burying someone so young and with so much hope has a profound impact on those surrounding. CALM not only looked after him throughout, but his family and loved ones too.

Aim of charity
To stop the tragedy of preventable cardiac deaths in young people. Every penny raised through the Yasmin Caldera Memorial Fund (in association with CRY for young people) is used to fund screening days for those aged 14-35, at local schools and sports clubs, completely free of charge.

Reason for nominating this charity
The 30-year anniversary celebration on the 21st November marks the 2 year anniversary, to the day, of my best friend Cian's sudden and unexpected passing, aged 24. Cian's death was the result of an undiagnosed heart condition, which if detected early, would have been completely treatable. Cian brought joy and laughter to anyone he came across and his death severely impacted all those that knew him. Tragically, every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Increased screenings and awareness can help prevent the pain that Cian's family and friends still feel. Please vote!

Charlie Waller was a strong, popular and outgoing young man, and my friend, but in September 1997, at the age of 28, he took his own life. His story is not unique and depression, especially among young people, is more prevalent than ever today especially with the effects of social media. Reason for nominating this charity
I am nominating CHUMS, as my two children and I were supported by CHUMS nearly 10 years ago when their father committed suicide. They are an incredible charity that helped us in so many ways, and I truly believe that we wouldn't be where we are today without their help and support. They provide many services to help children, young people and their families deal with mental health and bereavement. Of their children's particular DHDDS gene mutation, which can cause children to experience developmental delays and seizures, currently there are only seven cases confirmed worldwide, placing them in the nano-rare category. Help to create a world where there is a cure for everyone with a DHDDS variant.

Aim of charity
HSLDA offers grants to families impacted by natural disasters to help them recover and continue homeschooling. If homes or school materials have been physically damaged by a hurricane, wildfire, tornado, earthquake, blizzard, or regional flooding, grants are available for emergency needs and to replace curriculum and household goods.

Reason for nominating this charity
Home schooling a wonderful option for children who don't fit into a public school environment. Children may have physical or emotional needs that a structured school setting is not able to meet. These children excel under the individualized attention and tailored curriculum that home schooling provides. When a natural disaster strikes and destroys the school materials or damages the home so that the family has to find other accommodations, a Home Schooling Foundation grant allows the education of the child to continue while the family recovers.

Reason for nominating this charity
I wanted to nominate this charity in the hope that it would assist the cause of our colleague Matt Baker who puts so much time money and effort into this incredible charity. Never have I seen an individual devote so much to such a worthy cause over the years and Howden should be very proud to have him. Imagine arriving at hospital and having to provide your own carer because there are no nurses. Imagine needing a medical transfer but having to pay up front for fuel costs. Reason for nominating this charity
At least 43,204 Palestinians have been killed and more than 101,641 injured. This number is expected to increase rapidly as conflict continues. More than 40% of deaths are children. The tightening of Israel’s siege of Gaza – cutting off supplies of food, medicine, fuel, and aid – represents collective punishment of all 2.2 million people living in Gaza, around half of whom are children. The population, so many of which are children, are facing untold suffering. Charity provide free and practical evidence-based MS information and fund research into better ways of living with the condition. To make sure that everybody affected gets the best possible care.

Reason for nominating this charity
MS Trust is close to my heart as myself battle with Multiple Sclerosis. It’s a snowflake disease and when progressed can be life changing. I appeal to vote on my charity as his will create opportunities to speed up the process of finding a cure to this ungrateful disease and train new MS nurses. Now there is no cure to stop MS or to revers what was once damaged in our body. The need to uncover this disease is enormous as already in UK there are over 130,000 people with MS.
Let make a change!

Aim of charity
To fund research and support sufferers of Motor Neurone Disease

Reason for nominating this charity
At the time of Doddie Weirs diagnosis there was literally no funded research in MND. He went on a crusade to alter this and his eternal optimism has made the charity what it is today two years after his death 26/11/2022. He and many rugby colleagues have changed the national perception of MND and brought to the forefront of people’s minds.
It is a horrific illness with no cure.

Eczema is a skin condition that ranges from being mild or extremely severe. It can be incredibly debilitating, and result in mental illness from an early age, as children struggle to understand and manage the condition - and because it is so visible and hard to control has significant knock on impacts to mental health in not just the child but the family. It has also grown rapidly in the UK, over recent years. The causes are still be properly understood, and if breakthroughs are achieved - this would have a significant wide reaching impact across society.

Aim of charity
Ovarian Cancer Action is a community of changemakers with one purpose: to give ovarian cancer the focus it needs to increase 10-year survival rates.
They fund more ovarian cancer research than any other UK gynaecological cancer charity and they've driven some of the biggest breakthroughs of the last 19 years.

Reason for nominating this charity
My Mum died of ovarian cancer nearly 11 years ago, and if the level of research and advancement within the treatment of the disease had been greater, she may well still be here. Ovarian cancer is one of the most silent cancers in terms of symptoms, but far more awareness and education around what to look out for needs to exist. I'd love to see survival rates increase, as well as knowledge of the signs and symptoms.

Pancreatic cancer claims as many lives as breast cancer and prostate cancer but only receives a fraction of the funding. It is important to me to help change this statistic and support PanKind in their mission to triple survival rates by 2030. Less than 30 years ago, the survival rate of this disease was only 3.7%, however, as funding has slowly started to increase, the survival rate has risen to 13%. On a personal note, I lost my grandmother to pancreatic cancer before I was born and see the effects this has had on my mum.

Parkinson’s is a disease that is incurable and has a devastating impact on the lives of many, with physical and mental health implications. There is a lack of research into the causes and also a lack of support for sufferers due to a lack of investment by the NHS. Peace Direct does everything they can to support them, whether that’s through funding, knowledge sharing, raising global awareness or garnering international support. I like how Peace Direct trusts local peacebuilders and invests in sustainable peacebuilding and local power, working with 25 local partners across 14 countries. Reason for nominating this charity
There are moments in some people's lives when suicide seems the only option forward. Somebody's father, somebody's daughter, somebody's friend, whose life takes a wrong turn into a dark place, usually through a conspiracy of unfortunate events over which they have no control. It is hard to comprehend the pain, anguish and sense of hopelessness somebody contemplating suicide must feel beforehand, and the feelings of loss afterwards can have a devastating impact on family and friends. In their darkest moments, Pieta House shines a beacon into the lives of those contemplating suicide, and helps bring them back into the light.

PIP-UK also offers essential support for families struggling with this relatively less understood condition, helping them navigate challenges and access treatment options. Aim of charity
PoTS UK aims to educate and support individuals with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS), family, friends, and medical professionals, particularly those involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of those suffering from this widely unknown and misdiagnosed condition and seeks to support research into its causes, impact, treatment, and cure.

Reason for nominating this charity
PoTS is a life altering and debilitating chronic health condition due to an abnormal response by the autonomic nervous system. It is a predominantly invisible condition, and the severity of symptoms can vary from person to person and day to day. Symptoms typically include palpitations, chest pains, light-headedness, fainting, fatigue, nausea, and headaches, and are associated with a persistent increase in heart rate. Unfortunately, many healthcare professionals are not aware of this condition, often misdiagnosing patients, delaying access to NHS specialists and treatment. PoTS UK seeks to achieve better NHS services, more research, and targeted treatments for people with PoTS.

Aim of charity
The Prison Reform Trust is an independent charity working to create a just, humane and effective penal system. They do this through reducing unnecessary imprisonment and promoting community solutions to crime, improving treatment and conditions for prisoners and their families, and promoting equality and human rights in the justice system.

Reason for nominating this charity
With the prison population in England and Wales now exceeding 87,000 and projected to rise to over 100,000 by 2026, higher than in any other Western Europe country, reform is urgently needed. Prisons are overcrowded and underfunded and simply do not work. Staff shortages mean that many people are kept inhumanely inside their cells for 23 hours a day, locked up with no access to the rehabilitation services they require for education, skills training, and counselling. This charity provides support for people in the Derby area who have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, all kinds of abuse or bereavement. They do this by providing Christmas presents, helping children with education funding, helping family's experience holidays etc. It provides a feeling of normality for families who are starting over.

Reason for nominating this charity
Growing up my Dad, Brother and I were victims of domestic violence. There were little resources available for men who were abuse victims, so we were placed with a women's charity and put in a refuge in Derbyshire. Charities like this provided us with stability, food, shelter and safety and allowed us to begin again. I lost my dad at 18 (2 years ago) so nominating a charity that supports families with bereavement, along with education, abuse support for men and women, would make all the difference to me. Aim of charity
Osteoporosis causes bones to lose strength and break more easily. Half of women and one in five men over the age of 50 will break a bone as a result. One bone is broken every minute in the UK, causing pain, fear and isolation. Osteoporosis is the so called ‘silent condition’ - typified by under-diagnosis, under-treatment and low public awareness. We’re breaking this silence. Osteoporosis is treatable and broken bones are preventable. With an early diagnosis and the right treatment, people can live well thanks to safe and effective medications. We’re committed to improving awareness and standards of care, offering expert support and inspiring action among the public and policy makers, to demand change for the 3.5 million who live with osteoporosis and the millions more us at risk in future

Reason for nominating this charity
Think it's just women that get osteoporosis? Think again! Until 2020 I would run about 200 miles a month, then I got a stress fracture in my spine - the cause? Osteoporosis at 50 years old. I'm the lucky one as running flushed the cause to the surface - but so many go undiagnosed until it's too late. My neighbour opposite - her spine is literally crumbling away; My mum, increasingly hunched over, as she fights to replace the bone structure. The Royal Osteoporosis Society is constantly striving to put a stop to this suffering.

The RSPCA is the world’s oldest animal welfare charity. Our aims are to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals. We care about all animals: pets, farmed animals, exotics, wildlife and animals used in science. We have 400 frontline animal rescuers saving animals from danger every single day.

Reason for nominating this charity
So many of us have animals who are simply, part of our family! They offer companionship and love to many people and have a positive impact on the mental health of us humans. Sadly, many people wrongly abuse animals because they see them as weak beings. Animals do not have a voice and do not deserve to be subjected to neglect or abusive behaviour. Animals are helpless against humans and I know I am not the only person who wishes to prevent the abuse that they unnecessarily endure. Let's help prevent this!

SANE aims to improve Britain’s mental health by: campaigning to raise awareness and reduce stigma; providing one-to-one support to sufferers; and facilitating research into mental illnesses and their potential treatments. Their SANEline is available 365 days a year for those who need non-judgemental, compassionate and confidential emotional support.

Reason for nominating this charity
SANE are an incredible charity where every pound goes a long way; they offer services far greater than their size. SANE are seeking to raise funds to extend their vital adult services to adolescents. One in five UK children suffer from mental ill health every year. There are 300,000 children on NHS waiting lists for therapy. 100,000 of these will wait over a year. SANE wants to be there to help them navigate that waiting period safely. £30,000 would play a huge role in meeting the initial costs of the new youth service, helping young people for years to come.

Aim of charity
Sarcoma UK aims to transform the lives of those affected by sarcoma, a rare cancer, by funding groundbreaking medical research, providing life-saving support and raising awareness. Their mission is to improve early diagnosis, enhance treatment options, and ultimately find a cure, ensuring better outcomes and quality of life for patients.

Reason for nominating this charity
Sarcoma UK is a small charity with a big heart and a vital role. It doesn't have the profile of the bigger cancer charities. Sarcoma is a rare, often aggressive cancer. It’s difficult to diagnose and treat. Every day, 15 people in the UK, are diagnosed. Unlike common cancers, Sarcoma UK has lacked the awareness and investment necessary to improve outcomes. Sarcoma UK is dedicated to changing this. By working with patients, families and healthcare professionals, they improve patient support, raise awareness, fund research, and save lives. In essence, they are the UK’s voice for the sarcoma community.

Aim of charity
The Care Workers’ Charity (CWC) was founded in 2009 with the objective of supporting current and former care workers with one-off crisis grants, helping those in dire financial need, who have spent their lives helping others - the most vulnerable in our society.

Reason for nominating this charity
We all recognise the incredible contribution care workers provide to those most vulnerable in our society, yet they do this extremely challenging job on minimal income, with little recognition or reward. This means severe financial stress can befall them very easily. The CWC supports almost 2m UK care workers, where their one-off payments support carers experiencing unforeseen or life-changing circumstances, such as bereavement, illness or injury, where they have no resources to meet associated costs. And yet, they are vital to our society. We should all feel the need to help support those who dedicate their lives to helping others.

Aim of charity
Salvation Army offers affordable childcare services for families, including after-school care with transportation for children and teenagers. They organize fully funded camps for youth and maintain food pantries throughout the year, particularly during natural disasters. Additionally, they manage the well-known Toys for Tots program during the Christmas season.

Reason for nominating this charity
During a time of great vulnerability and need, the Salvation Army served as a vital source of support for our family. Since the age of two, both of my sons received care from compassionate staff members. They were nurtured in an environment characterized by exceptional care, dedicated personnel, and, most importantly, Christian principles. At a time when we could not afford such opportunities, my sons were able to participate in camps and activities at no cost. Now, they have chosen to volunteer with the organization, recognizing the profound impact it has had on our lives.

Aim of charity
The primary threat to sharks and rays is the impacts of excessive and inadequately managed fisheries. UK and European fisheries work encompasses government consultation, policy engagement, fisheries monitoring and educational materials. Community engagement brings together citizen science programmes with ecotourism guidelines and researchers driving positive change.

Reason for nominating this charity
Sharks have been in our ocean for over 400 million years. Now, the survival of many species is in danger. This extinction crisis is avoidable if we act to address the primary threat: overfishing. A world without sharks would have serious consequences for marine and freshwater ecosystems. And yet many species are in danger of disappearing from our waters. The biggest threat faced by sharks across the world is overfishing. This is why Shark Trust focuses so much of their efforts on fisheries management, to deliver practical and effective shark conservation.

We decided to give him a chance and went through the most traumatic experience. If Leo’s heart condition was undetected and we took him home, he would have likely not survived past 24 hours.'

Reason for nominating this charity
Miscarriage and baby loss affects more people than you think. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss. It still seems to be a taboo subject to discuss and after having 3 losses myself in 12 months, talking really helps. And when you start talking, it's surprising to find out just how many other close friends / family have been impacted by it but feel they can't talk about it. Tommys aim to stop the heartbreak and devastation this causes and make pregnancy safe for all.

Reason for nominating this charity
This charity really tugs on my heart strings as I tend to do the regular weekly shop for my family, and have seen the prices of food increase drastically over the last few years. I am fortunate enough to be able to make ends meet and appreciate I am in a privileged position, but for those that are not so lucky I feel we should be giving them all of the help and support they need. Particularly where children and the elderly are concerned.

Aim of charity
Closing the income gap between young women and men by:
Visibility, voice, and power: Providing young women a platform to speak up, build power, and highlight financial penalties.
More equal world of work: Enhancing young women’s incomes, job satisfaction, and prospects; advocating for government and employer action on workplace equality.

Reason for nominating this charity
Why should we close the "income gap?". The income gap refers to the difference in earnings between young women and men of the same age. On average, young women earn about 20% less per year, a gap that begins early and persists throughout their lives. This happens due to factors like unpaid caring work, part-time jobs, lower-paying roles, and discrimination. Research shows 42% of young women face workplace discrimination. These challenges prevent young women from thriving. To create a fairer future, we must act now to close the income gap and ensure young women have equal opportunities and financial security.
